Hi all, I’m exhausted. Allow me to explain to you the the full extent of that statement.
I woke up around 5:45 (as usual) with the knowledge that I had to be at the base at 6:00 to catch the bus to walk-a-thon. I managed to get up and ready on time and the bus ride was uneventful.
Then we got to the lake. The first thing I saw was a sign saying not to feed the birds. Then a black swan came within five feet of us looking for food. That got a smile out of me.
We started around the lake. The plan was to circle it three times, that was 12k. I managed to do the first lap without my foot giving me trouble but I was getting really tired and I was worried my foot might give out part way around. So me and two others who were also having trouble sat out the second lap. Almost as soon as we sat down we were surrounded by these little black water birds and three or four black swans looking for food. The other two were a little nervous but I was loving it. They didn’t seem aggressive, just very interested. The swans got really close, one actually brushed against my leg. (I can just see becky’s reaction to this. Remember you have birdies at home that you can pet any time.)
After a while the group got back to us and I joined up again. I managed to keep up… for more then half. Oh yeah. By the end of it I was really tired and I didn’t think I could do it again but wonder of wonders, my foot felt fine. I suspect the prayer my friend Ashley gave had something to do with it.
(For those of you who wanted to sponsor me by kilometer, I believe that’s eight.)
Anyway we came back, I had cereal, and now I need to buy more milk.
Lectures was awesome (Fear of the Lord) although I had trouble staying awake. I was just spent. I also think I have an incomplete definition of holy in my head because some things aren’t adding up so I should probably pray some and ask a few questions.
After that was lunch which I finished pretty quickly, even though I was very hungry.
This was my “on” week for ARMS (an outreach where we help families in crisis situations, it usually involves cleaning) so I was just praying for strength by that point. I managed to find a mattress leaning against the wall near the door I would have to go out to get to our meeting place so I pulled it out, grabbed my watch, and dozed for twenty minutes. Then I got to go. (Joy)
It ended up that there wasn’t really something for us to do so we ended up taking a walk pushing an incredibly light crate with convenient wheels on it. After getting the crate to its destination we went to one of the staff houses where someone had just moved out and cleaned one room and one bathroom.
When we got done an hour earlier then normal all I could say was thank you God!
Then I had maybe an hour to relax before dinner dishes started. Setting up the tables went without incident and then I got to eat! Then (since Tuesdays are dessert days) we handed out dessert and then ate our own. (yum!)
Then, because I wasn’t able to clean my machine (Again!) I helped clean tongs and serving spoons, and sweep, and put chairs back in their proper place when the inside crew finished early. We all finished at 7:10. Oh. Yeah.
Now I’m sitting in front of my computer typing a blog to you. Sleep is good.
